Christmas in the Sun

Ahhh, that was relaxing! I took a break from work for the period between Christmas and New Years. I had lots of good intentions about visiting somewhere outside Sydney, like the Blue Mountains for instance. However, it was pointed out that the Blue Mountains are currently on fire, so instead I lazed about Sydney for the week. Divine!

Aside: I've just looked up the news, and it would appear that the Blue Mountains are not actually on fire. Thanks a bunch guys!

On Christmas day I did a traditional Aussie Christmas Lunch. I popped across Darling Harbour to the Pyrmont Fish Markets. I wanted to get a small Salmon, however I knew I was in trouble when I I asked a guy at the first market if they had any small salmon. His reply: "No, we’ve just got f**k-off big salmon!" I went all over the market, and eventually found what looked like a medium sized salmon. However as soon as I hefted him up on my back I thought "We’re going to need a bigger boat." There were three of us at lunch, we still only got through one quarter of "Jaws".

If I ever have cold salmon again, it’ll be too soon.

I attended a great party on News Years Eve. It was in a flat with the most wonderful view over the harbor: Harbour Bridge, Opera House and everything. The traditional Sydney fireworks were brilliant! It was a fantastic way to reel in 2007. I brought a camera, but as usual forgot to take any pictures. Sorry!

On the subject of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, this year will mark the 75th anniversary of its construction. As a result there was a whole Diamond theme to the decorations on the bridge, and the boats in the harbour.

New Year's in Sydney - does it get any better? Blog reminded me of when Joanne and I were out there a few years ago...fireworks are spectacular!

If you get the chance to see the Hunter Valley it well worth the trip - wine tours are great, but the place is simply so relaxing.
