Saturn Return

Just sitting down watching the "Australian of the Year" awards, which were held this Australian day. The winner was an environmentalist, Tim Flannery, and in his acceptance speech he criticized Australia as "the worst atmospheric polluter per capita" in the world. The funny part? The look on the face of John Howard, who was standing beside him for the entire speech holding the award. The best bit was probably the segment he started with"...and let me say to the president John Howard". The phrase "a rabbit caught in headlights" springs to mind.

In other Australian of the Year news, John Howard swore in (is that the right term?) everyone's favorite Kildare Man, Damien Leith as an Australian citizen.

...

I apologize for the lack of updates recently. I must admit, I've been having some "New Year's Blues". Any of you that know me well, know that I am, by nature, a planner. Well, at the moment I'm at a loose end. For the first time in a long while, I don't know where I'm going, or even where I want to go. Career, location, love-life, are all in flux. My instinct is to get control somehow, but to be frank, I've no idea how. I think I've partially come to the decision that I should just go with the flow - lot's of other people do it after all.

Christmas in the Sun

Ahhh, that was relaxing! I took a break from work for the period between Christmas and New Years. I had lots of good intentions about visiting somewhere outside Sydney, like the Blue Mountains for instance. However, it was pointed out that the Blue Mountains are currently on fire, so instead I lazed about Sydney for the week. Divine!

Aside: I've just looked up the news, and it would appear that the Blue Mountains are not actually on fire. Thanks a bunch guys!

On Christmas day I did a traditional Aussie Christmas Lunch. I popped across Darling Harbour to the Pyrmont Fish Markets. I wanted to get a small Salmon, however I knew I was in trouble when I I asked a guy at the first market if they had any small salmon. His reply: "No, we’ve just got f**k-off big salmon!" I went all over the market, and eventually found what looked like a medium sized salmon. However as soon as I hefted him up on my back I thought "We’re going to need a bigger boat." There were three of us at lunch, we still only got through one quarter of "Jaws".

If I ever have cold salmon again, it’ll be too soon.

I attended a great party on News Years Eve. It was in a flat with the most wonderful view over the harbor: Harbour Bridge, Opera House and everything. The traditional Sydney fireworks were brilliant! It was a fantastic way to reel in 2007. I brought a camera, but as usual forgot to take any pictures. Sorry!

On the subject of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, this year will mark the 75th anniversary of its construction. As a result there was a whole Diamond theme to the decorations on the bridge, and the boats in the harbour.
